Erwin Nöthen, who designed the commemorative medal for the recipients of the “Benediktpreis von Mönchengladbach,” passed away on August 11, 2022, at the age of 85. Erwin Nöthen was a freelance sculptor and medallist who lived in Düsseldorf. His artworks are represented in numerous public and private art collections, particularly throughout North Rhine-Westphalia. In the 1980s, Erwin Nöthen was selected by Dr. Busso Diekamp, the then chairman of the Heimat- und Bürgerverein, to create the medal for the former Benediktpreis that has been awarded at the ceremony ever since.
We mourn the loss of Erwin Nöthen; his art lives on through our award ceremony.
